Marks & Spencer plc in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve the Customer Order Domain. This role focuses on building backend services, scalable microservices, and APIs that support the full order lifecycle across multiple channels.

You will work with Java or Kotlin, Kafka, GraphQL and REST in a scalable, event-driven environment and collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to solve complex commerce challenges.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineer with experience designing and operating scalable services in production.
• Experience designing API-first platforms with GraphQL and REST-based services.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend services that support the complete customer order lifecycle, from order creation through fulfilment and completion.
• Develop scalable microservices and APIs using Java/Kotlin.
• Contribute to event-driven architectures using Kafka to support high-volume transactional workflows across Payments, Pricing, and Fulfilment domains.
• Design and evolve GraphQL and REST APIs for performance, scalability and developer experience.
• Build resilient, low-latency solutions using distributed databases, caching technologies and modern architectural patterns.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Architects and stakeholders to solve complex commerce challenges.
