Job summary

KierDesign in Exeter is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Development team. You will own technical work from requirements through design, implementation, testing and delivery.

You will design and maintain backend services in Python, work with SQL databases, and integrate REST APIs and data processing for production environments.

This hybrid role offers Exeter-based work with some remote options, a starting salary of £50,000 per year, and a benefits package for experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Independent ownership of technical work from requirements through design, implementation, testing and delivery
• Experience with SQL and relational database design (schemas, relationships, constraints, data models)
• Proficient in Python with backend development experience
• Experience consuming or developing REST APIs and integrating software with internal/third‑party services

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of technical workstreams from initial requirements through solution design, development, testing and implementation
• Design, develop and maintain backend applications, automation and geospatial data-processing solutions
• Work with stakeholders to understand requirements and recommend technical solutions
• Design and evolve database schemas, data models and supporting processes
• Investigate and resolve complex issues affecting live services and implement sustainable fixes
