Job summary

Wise London is seeking a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join the Pricing Core team. You will design, develop, test, and maintain backend services in Java using the Spring Boot framework, deployed on cloud infrastructure (AWS).

The role focuses on building event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka for asynchronous processing of financial events across distributed services, driving architecture decisions, and ensuring reliability, observability and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience with Java or similar OOP language.
• Strong software engineering background with large projects.
• Experience designing for long-term iteration and scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services written in Java using the Spring Boot framework, deployed on cloud infrastructure (AWS)
• Build and maintain event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for asynchronous processing of financial events across distributed services
• Contribute and drive architectural decisions, ensuring we maintain a high bar on quality, reliability and observability of our services
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt in existing systems
• Participate in on-call rotations to monitor and respond to production incidents for Tier 1 critical services
• Conduct code reviews for team members, ensuring code quality, security, and adherence to engineering standards
