Job summary

Apron is hiring a senior backend engineer to build and scale the core product lines like Bill Pay and Apron Card. You’ll work cross-functionally with frontend, product managers and designers to ship features from discovery to production.

We prize JVM Kotlin expertise, scalable relational databases and high-quality, fast code. With 8+ years in a product-led, fast-paced environment, you’ll help design secure, performant systems and mentor others in a growing fintech.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in a product-led, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in JVM languages, especially Kotlin, for server-side development.
• Experience with relational databases at scale.
• Strong focus on code quality and performance.
• Nice to have hands-on Kotlin, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Postgres (GIST indexes, partitioning, replication).

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the backend powering core product lines like Bill Pay and Apron Card.
• Collaborate with Frontend Engineers, Product Managers and Designers to ship features from discovery to production.
• Design financial integrations where security and speed both matter.
• Share experience, drive innovation and raise the bar for the team.
