Job summary

SilverRail in London is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (back-end) to design, develop and maintain scalable services. You will translate business needs into robust APIs, contribute to architecture decisions, and own components from code to production.

You will work closely with product, QA and other engineers in an Agile environment, mentoring juniors, and improving performance, reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of hands-on software development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Java 11+ and Spring ecosystem.
• Experience with Hibernate and relational databases like MySQL, NoSQL databases is a bonus.
• Experience building JSON and XML APIs with RESTful principles.
• Experience working in an Agile (Scrum) environment.
• Experience using Git and CI/CD pipelines; GitLab experience would be beneficial.
• Experience with AWS, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with micro-services and SaaS architectures.
• Experience with Event Driven Architecture and Domain-Driven Design concepts a plus.
• Ability to communicate well across technical teams and mentor juniors.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Autonomy and ownership in ambiguous domains.

Responsibilities

• Analyse requirements to design, develop, test, and maintain software components and services.
• Design, develop, and support modern APIs, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Write clean, efficient, and scalable code aligned with engineering standards.
• Contribute to architecture, including modular design and scalable solutions.
• Perform testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution to ensure quality.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, QA, and development teams throughout the Agile lifecycle.
• Lead code reviews and technical discussions to improve practices.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
