Job summary

CreateFuture is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Java Engineer in the Manchester area. You’ll shape technical direction, mentor others, and embed AI and automation into client delivery.

The role blends hands-on coding with architectural influence and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll work with Java 8+ and Spring, build REST APIs, and drive scalable, secure microservices while promoting testing, observability and modern development practices.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and building scalable backend systems in Java/Spring.
• Strong API design experience with REST, security and versioning.
• Experience leading architecture discussions and coaching engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality software with automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend systems using Java and Spring ecosystem.
• Lead technical design and architecture discussions for maintainable, performant solutions.
• Develop RESTful APIs with security, versioning and performance in mind.
• Champion engineering excellence via clean code, tests, docs and reviews.
• Drive delivery across multiple initiatives balancing speed, quality and value.
