Job summary

St. James's Place is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to lead design and delivery of scalable, secure Investment Platform backend services in London. You will own data pipelines, integration points, and cloud-native solutions, working with DevOps, full-stack engineers and business stakeholders to enable data-driven decision making.

The role emphasizes engineering standards, automation, and continuous improvement, with focus on resilience, performance and regulatory compliance across platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building and supporting scalable data and backend platform solutions using Python and SQL.
• Experience in Asset Management or Financial Services with investment platforms.
• Proven hands-on experience with Airflow and dbt end-to-end, including DAGs and projects.
• Experience delivering cloud-native data and integration solutions on AWS.
• Knowledge of data architecture, ETL/ELT patterns, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, leadership and mentoring.
• Experience operating production platforms with monitoring and incident management.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and evolution of Investment Platform services, data platforms and cloud-native solutions.
• Define and enforce engineering standards, best practices and architectural principles.
• Provide technical leadership across the SDLC from design through deployment and support.
• Design scalable, secure backend services, APIs and data pipelines to support growth.
• Mentor engineers and drive automation, observability and CI/CD improvements.
• Collaborate with architects to define future-state architectures and roadmaps.
