Location
Our Senior Backend Engineer will be an integral part of our EMEA engineering teams. This role is based remotely as a full-time employee in the UK, Ireland, Estonia, Netherlands, Sweden, and Spain. We are also open to contractors in East Europe and Portugal.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be working on the core backend solutions, powering the PerfectScale data pipeline and business logic. You'll collaborate with product managers and developers from other teams and participate in product-making decisions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product, devops, backend, and frontend engineers to deliver elegant and well-thought-out solutions for complex problems.
- Implement features from proposal through design, implementation, and maintenance, proposing enhancements that benefit the product.
- Write clean and maintainable code using engineering best practices, and perform code reviews to ensure quality.
- Improve the health of the codebase, dedicating time to housekeeping to manage technical debt.
- Provide feedback during planning and discussions to identify challenges and unknowns early.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- 6+ years of backend development experience (Go/Java/Rust/Python).
- 3+ years of commercial Golang experience.
- 2+ years of experience with high traffic / high load distributed systems and data pipelines.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including performance/schema/query optimization; ClickHouse and Postgres are a big advantage.
- Experience developing enterprise-grade SaaS products, microservices, and containers.
- Experience with microservices and containers (Docker).
- Passion for distributed systems design and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with modern DevOps frameworks and practices: Docker, K8s, GitOps, CI/CD.
- A knack for benchmarking and optimization.
- Proactive, can-do attitude.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Self-organized, goal-oriented, confident, thorough, and tenacious.
Bonus Points
- Hands-on, production experience with K8s.
- Hands-on, production experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with data engineering - streaming and batch processing, Spark, Iceberg, ClickHouse, Parquet.
