Job summary

Orbital Industries in London is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build and operate core systems powering CurieOS. You will work across APIs, data pipelines and graph databases to connect our AI models with scientists and engineers.

You will collaborate with ML researchers and product engineers to deliver reliable, scalable backend solutions, write well-tested code, and help shape the technical direction of our platform while maintaining high engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Backend engineering experience with strong programming skills.
• Design, build and operate backend systems in production — APIs, data pipelines, event-driven architectures or similar.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one backend language (e.g. Python, Go, Rust, Java/Kotlin).
• Experience with databases (relational and/or graph), message queues, caching layers and cloud infrastructure.
• Track record of shipping reliable software used by real users.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core backend systems powering CurieOS, focusing on reliability and performance.
• Create APIs, services and data pipelines with clean abstractions.
• Own full lifecycle of backend features from design through deployment and monitoring.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Improve observability, reliability and performance of systems.
