InvestEngine Limited in London is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join our Backoffice team. You will shape core services, drive architecture, and scale internal platforms powering critical operations.

You’ll work with Python 3.11, Django, MySQL, Redis, and REST APIs, collaborating with product, compliance, and business teams. This role emphasizes hands-on design and technical leadership without people management.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong Python and Django skills.
• Relational databases, caching, and high-performance backend systems.
• REST APIs design and distributed systems experience.
• Ability to own architectural decisions.
• Familiarity with Git and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
• English (B2) and fluent Russian.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python 3.11 and Django/DRF.
• Lead architectural discussions and contribute to long-term technical strategy.
• Work with MySQL and Redis to optimize performance and scalability.
• Build and improve RESTful APIs for internal and external integrations.
• Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability as we grow.
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Business teams to automate back-office workflows.
• Investigate and resolve production issues and reduce tech debt.

About the Role

We’re looking for aSenior Backend Developerto join ourBackoffice teamand strengthen our technical foundation as we grow. This role focuses on architecture, system stability, and scaling internal platforms that power critical business operations.

You’ll work on complex backend challenges, design clean and scalable services, and collaborate with product and business teams to bring ideas to life. You’ll play a key role in shaping technical direction and making high-impact decisions — without people management responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services inPython 3.11usingDjango / DRF

• Lead architectural discussions and contribute to long-term technical strategy

• Work withMySQLandRedisto optimize performance and scalability

• Build and improveRESTful APIsfor internal and external integrations

• Continuously improve system performance, reliability, and scalability as we grow

• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Business teams to deliver impactful features and automate back office processes and workflows.

• Investigate and resolve production issues, identify bottlenecks, and reduce tech debt

• Apply best practices in Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, GitHub Actions), and code quality
  Drive improvements in our architecture, development processes, and internal tooling

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of experience in backend development

• Strong Python skills and deep knowledge ofDjango(or similar frameworks)

• Solid understanding ofrelational databases, caching, and high-performance backend systems

• Experience withREST APIs, service design, and distributed systems

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and take ownership of architectural decisions

• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD practices, and modern development workflows

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• English (B2 level or higher)and fluent Russian

Nice to Have

• Experience working infintech, regulated industries, or internal B2B tools

• Familiarity withAWS,Docker, and message brokers (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka)

• Contributions to open source or personal side projects
