Job summary

Sava is hiring a senior backend engineer to design and implement robust backend architectures, APIs, services, and databases that support production and development needs.

You will translate complex requirements into scalable systems, collaborate with data scientists and hardware teams, and improve observability, security, and deployment processes as we move from prototype to product.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with production backends.
• Experience with strongly typed languages - Go preferred.
• Experience with common database approaches - relational, non-relational.
• Modern deployment strategies.
• Experience building APIs, backend services, or data-processing applications.
• Intimate knowledge of internet networking concepts, protocols, servers, instances, CDNs etc.
• Fluent with setting up development servers from scratch when required, on premise or on cloud.
• A practical understanding of networking concepts, including HTTP, DNS, protocols, servers, and cloud infrastructures
• Containerisation
• Relentless pursuit of elegant interfaces that encapsulate complexity and facilitate building loosely coupled systems
• Emphasis on rapid scalability of solutions
• Model Based Engineering approach, such as Data Model Design or UML
• Relentless pursuit of system security: red/blue, CVE/CWEs, encryption, authN/authZ, security landscape changes
• Flexibility with tools & tech stacks; openness to learn new ones
• Ability to work & communicate across disciplines (Data Science, Mobile, Embedded, etc.)
• Focus on System Observability through gold layer metrics and error diagnostics

Responsibilities

• Design & implement backend architectures, APIs, applications, services, and databases to support production & developmental needs.
• Write clear, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Automated testing of backend infrastructure.
• Contribute to high-performance software development processes balancing performance, reliability, and security.
• Champion best practices.
• Contribute to technical and architectural decisions with engineers and stakeholders.
• Translate higher-level system requirements into concrete technical design solutions.
• Monitor production systems and improve observability through meaningful metrics, logging, tracing, and error diagnostics.
• Support continuous improvement of development, deployment, and operational processes.
