Job summary

Thatcham Research is seeking a data developer to join the Enterprise Data team in Thatcham. You will analyse, develop and maintain data integration solutions for BI and research data used across the business to support data requirements.

You will design scalable integrations, build real-time data pipelines and leverage Azure services to support research while ensuring governance and security guidelines are followed. Hybrid working with two days in the office.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure data integration and cloud platform services.
  • Proficiency in SQL, ETL, Python and APIs to move and transform data.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with JSON and XML data formats and REST/SOAP interfaces.
  • Ability to design scalable data pipelines with governance and security in mind.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build robust data integration solutions for products.
  • Develop and maintain data interfaces for analytics products.
  • Deliver real-time and event-driven big data solutions for research.
  • Create ETL processes to enrich Thatcham data.
  • Build cloud-native integrations using Azure services (Logic Apps, Function Apps).
  • Design automated pipelines with reliability, scalability, and monitoring.
  • Ensure alignment with data governance and information security.
  • Apply Git version control and conduct code reviews.
  • Collaborate with data architects, analysts and testers to deliver solutions.
  • Maintain production pipelines and provide timely issue resolution.
  • Produce technical documentation (design docs, DevOps boards, commented code).

Job description

We have an opportunity to join the Enterprise Data team and support the wider Enterprise Data team to deliver and maintain datasets, components and tools that support the wider business and its’ Data requirements.


You’ll be responsible for analysing, developing, and maintaining data integration solutions for BI and research data used within the business to support research and analysis activities.


What you'll be doing:


  • Design and build robust and scalable data integration solutions for our products in line with technical standards

  • Develop and maintain application interfaces for our data and analytical products

  • Deliver big data solutions leveraging real-time and event-driven technologies to support research

  • Develop and maintain data transformations and ETL processes based on business requirements to further enrich Thatcham data

  • Build and manage cloud-native integrations using Azure services such as Logic Apps and Function Apps

  • Design and implement automated data pipelines and orchestration workflows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and monitoring

  • Ensuring data development work aligns with data governance and information security

  • Apply Git-based version control and collaboration practices (branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews)

  • Collaborate with wider data and analytics team including data architects, analysts and testers to deliver high-quality data solutions

  • Maintain and troubleshoot production data pipelines, ensuring stability and timely issue resolution

  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation (e.g., design documents, DevOps boards, and well-commented code)


Skills & experience that will set you up for success in this role:


  • Solid experience with the Azure data integration and cloud platform (ADF, Synapse, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Azure Web Apps)

  • Proficiency in data integration tools like SQL, ETL, Python and APIs to extract, transform, and load data from different sources.

  • Strong knowledge of relational database design, implementation, and administration, including MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.

  • Practical knowledge of no SQL databases e.g. Cosmo DB

  • Create data integrations using different data latency methodologies, e.g., real-time, periodic, and batch.

  • Strong understanding of application interface technologies including REST, SOAP, Service Bus, etc.

  • Strong experience working with JSON & XML

  • Consider security, compliance, and governance in context of solution architecture

  • Experience in data analysis, data mapping, and data integration routines involving moving, cleansing, and transforming data between multiple systems.

  • Practical experience within a Data and Analytics team


Additional skills we’d welcome in our team, but not essential


  • Data integration with machine learning and AI capabilities

  • Exposure to DevOps automation practices for data platforms (infrastructure as code, pipeline templating)

  • Understanding/experience with of motor insurance industry and the automotive industry would be an advantage

Salary - Circa £63,140 dependent on skills & experience

When we work

Our standard working hours are 8:30 - 16:30 Monday - Thursday, early finish on Friday - 8:30 - 15:45 (Talk to us about flexible working if this doesn’t quite suit you – we take work-life balance seriously!)

We understand the benefits of remote and in-person collaboration and therefore have a hybrid working model – you’ll be expected to work from our office in Thatcham at least two days per week.
