We are looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join and represent a team dedicated to delivering and managing the AWS Cloud Platform. Your work will ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and efficiency of the environments hosting Sainsbury’s applications.
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Platform Engineer with a passion for AWS, Infrastructure as Code, and automation to join our team. This role focuses on designing, delivering, and operating our AWS Cloud Platform that powers Sainsbury’s Services and Applications. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our environments are scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient, while driving continuous improvement across our cloud capabilities and helping lead the delivery of best-in-breed cloud services to Sainsbury’s.
What You’ll Do:
- Build and Run Scalable Infrastructure: Use cutting-edge tools and technologies to continuously deliver robust Cloud Infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code practices. Collaborate with Product Owners, our Engineering Community, Architects, and Information Security to develop solutions that meet customer needs and business goals. Focus on improving reliability, efficiency, governance, and security.
- AWS Expertise: Strong experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, CloudFormation, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53, and Networking.
- Passion for Automation: Deep commitment to automation and modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
- Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Serverless, or similar tools.
- Tooling and Innovation: Ability to develop custom tools or leverage open-source solutions to enhance platform efficiency and usability.
- Enhance Cloud Platform Capabilities: Develop internal tools to improve performance, security, and cost-efficiency. Deploy and configure production systems focusing on automation, security, and repeatability.
- Monitor and Improve: Keep abreast of new features and functionalities, assess their operational implications, and implement improvements. Ensure IAM controls are in place and monitor infrastructure using appropriate thresholds and alerts. Maintain documentation of support processes and operational issues.
Collaborate Across Teams:
- Work with engineers, product, and service teams across diverse platforms to create reliable, reusable cloud solutions. Collaborate with other DevOps engineers to design, implement, and evolve automated pipelines. Maintain a proactive and collaborative approach with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Ensure Operational Excellence:
- Deliver a platform that meets security, availability, and performance standards for critical applications. Participate in a 24/7 BAU and on-call rotations to support the platform and services.
What You Need to Know & Show:
- Strong understanding of AWS in an enterprise environment.
- Extensive experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, CloudFormation, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53, and Networking.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, ReactJS, or similar.
- Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CLI/SDK, or similar tools.
- Experience with Serverless architectures and technologies.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking (VPC, subnets, routing, firewalls, load balancers).
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, CodeBuild.
- Knowledge of front-end frameworks like Next.js, React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Experience with API integration using RESTful and GraphQL.
- Experience with version control tools like GitHub, preferably with GitHub Actions.
- Strong automated testing skills using frameworks like Jest, Playwright, Mocha, Cypress.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like AWS EKS and ECS.
- Understanding of monitoring, security, and compliance tools like CloudTrail, CloudWatch, New Relic.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex cloud issues.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Awareness of cloud cost optimization and monitoring solutions.
- Proven cloud operations experience and best practices knowledge.
- Mentoring skills and effective workload management.
- Ability to architect highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable cloud environments.
- Understanding of Service Operations, SRE, and ITIL.
- Experience with agile methodologies and tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Ability to work with stakeholders to define and meet requirements.
- Willingness to participate in 24/7 support rotation.
- Up-to-date knowledge of cloud and other relevant technologies.
- Aiming to build reliability and simplicity into products and systems.
