About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an AWS Engineer in London to work for our client within the Retail sector. This role will be mostly remote and is initially a 6-month contract.

As an AWS Engineer, you will be the SME and champion of cloud technologies relevant to the client's space, primarily AWS and Kafka. There is significant scope to make a positive impact in this area.

The client encourages developers to be T-shaped, so while they may not be experts in cloud technologies, they should have a working understanding. The ideal candidate would have at least 8 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day cloud work
• Support developers in creating and maintaining CloudFormation templates, deploying AWS resources, and managing Kafka topics
• Serve as SME in cloud-related tasks, completing them efficiently and upskilling developers
• Own cloud-specific tasks and monitor progress
• Report blockers and issues
• Handle larger cloud-centric projects, such as migrating pre-production resources
• Proactively identify issues and best practice improvements
• Act as cloud SME during incident reports
• Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot problems and delegate tasks appropriately

• Developing understanding of retail business and technology landscape, focusing on value addition
• Expertise in engineering and architectural practices
• Proven experience in solution design, security, cloud, and infrastructure
• Knowledge of agile practices
• Good judgment for complex decision-making
• Experience owning technical services and managing support and technical debt
• Leadership experience in motivating engineering teams

Technical Requirements

• Design and develop large-scale, high-performance services using Kubernetes, Kafka, Spring Boot, .NET, Node.js, React JS, serverless functions, and event-driven architecture
• Create real-time streaming and batch data pipelines with Apache Spark, Kafka, Lambda, Step Functions, and Snowflake
• Develop infrastructure with Kubernetes, Lambda, Terraform, Cloud Custodian, and AWS Transit Gateway
• Implement connectivity solutions using Cisco, F5, and Direct Connect
