Senior Avionics Software Engineer – DO-178C Expert (UK)

Job summary

Atrium (EMEA) is seeking multiple senior embedded software engineers with hands-on DO-178C experience for UK-based roles. You will work on safety-critical avionics software, develop BSPs and device drivers, and contribute to formal certification activities.

Roles require seven+ years in software development, five+ years on DO-178C programmes, and strong debugging skills. Occasional travel to customer sites and on-site work during delivery windows may be required.

Qualifications

• MUST be based in the UK.
• MUST have hands-on DO-178C certification experience.
• MUST have a strong background in safety-critical or avionics software development.
• Minimum of seven years’ software development experience.
• At least five years’ experience working on DO-178C development programmes.
• Strong understanding of DO-178C standards, ideally including DAL A certification.
• Strong embedded C programming experience.
• Development of low-level embedded software.
• Board Support Package (BSP) development for embedded hardware.
• Design, development and testing of embedded device drivers.
• Embedded hardware bring-up, testing and validation.
• Experience with requirements-based testing, verification and validation, and structural coverage.
• Experience with embedded processor architectures (PowerPC, ARM, x86, MIPS).
• Experience with Wind River Workbench or Eclipse.
• Ability to produce detailed software design documentation.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working independently in customer-facing projects.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Multi-core and virtualization architectures.
• Simics
• Experience with DOORS, Polarion, Jira or similar tools.
• Experience supporting formal software certification activities.

Responsibilities

• Engage with customers and wider engineering teams directly.
• Travel to customer sites as required.
• Work on-site during key delivery or validation activities under pressure.
• Collaborate within a four-person team to deliver DO-178C certified software.
