Job summary

Auston Legal Ltd in Leeds is recruiting a lawyer with at least 6 years’ PQE to bridge partners and juniors in the Professional Indemnity team. You will run a caseload of PI claims, supervise junior lawyers and assist partners on high value/multi‑party matters.

There will be early client contact and opportunities for secondments; applicants should have defendant PI experience, strong drafting, attention to detail and the ability to work with case management systems.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor or FCILEx with 6+ PQE in defendant professional indemnity.
• Experience running PI case load and supervising juniors.
• Strong written and report-writing skills; attention to detail.
• Proficient with case management systems and client liaison.

Job description

Our client is a large commercial practice known for its work across all premium insurance lines, including professional indemnity. The Leeds office plays a key part in our client’s strategy to grow their insurance offering across the regions.

The team advise on a range of claims against a variety of professionals, including solicitors, conveyancers, surveyors, architects and engineers. They also advise on complex policy issues.

The team have a strong client list, including insurance and corporate clients, and have achieved significant growth in recent years.

The Role:

The Professional Indemnity team wish to recruit a lawyer with at least 6 years’ PQE to bridge a gap between the partners and junior members of the team.

The role will involve running a caseload of professional indemnity claims, supervising junior lawyers and assisting partners with high value/multi-party claims.

There is early client contact and likely to be significant secondment opportunities in the future.

Key requirements:

• Previous defendant professional indemnity experience (6+ PQE)
• An ability to prioritise workload
• An ability to communicate in writing and prepare succinct and concise reports
• Ability to pay attention to detail
• Ability to work with case management systems
• The personal skills to deal with such work as major and expensive litigation involving liaison with senior claims handlers
• Legal qualification required – solicitor/FCILEx

Desirable:

• Willingness to play a role in the development of client relationships and of the practice as a whole.
• Claims handling experience (via a previous secondment or otherwise).
