Job summary

Clyde & Co in Bristol is seeking a Senior Associate to join the National Professional Indemnity team. You'll handle a broad spectrum of professional liability matters including regulatory investigations and coverage issues.

You will manage a diverse caseload, draft pleadings, advise insurers and clients, and run files independently under partner guidance, with opportunities to contribute to strategic matters.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 PQE; candidates with differing PQE levels will be considered.
• Experience on coverage disputes and advisory matters in financial, professional, and management lines.
• Strong knowledge of FCA-regulated space and FOS procedure with experience on financial lines and coverage matters.
• Demonstrate versatility across coverage and liability matters.
• Excellent drafting and strategy management; able to manage a varied caseload and assist in practice management.
• Build connections with clients in the insurance market; develop a network of contacts.
• Be an excellent team player with Clyde & Co competencies.
• Sollicitors Act 1974 requires practicing solicitors to hold a practicing certificate; Training Contract completed and relevant education (LPC or GDL).

The Team

Our National Professional Indemnity team is made up of a broad range of experts across UK offices. The NPI team has a very broad range of work with the professional, financial and management liability space, including but not limited to solicitors; accountants; IFAs, wealth-managers, pensions administrators and financial institutions; major insurance broking houses; surveyors; architects; D&O; and miscellaneous professions. The core of the NPI team’s work is acting for professionals and their insurers in the defence of civil liability claims against them, as well as on regulatory/disciplinary matters and coverage. Our national Professional Indemnity team handle complex regulatory investigations and litigation, while advising on a range of coverage matters, including identifying key trigger points for insurance protection.

The Role

As an Associate in Clyde & Co’s National Professional Indemnity team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services across a broad spectrum of professional liability matters. Working within one of the market-leading practices for insurance and professional risk, you will manage a diverse caseload involving claims against professionals such as solicitors, accountants, financial advisers, construction consultants, brokers, and other regulated practitioners. The role involves handling complex, multi-party disputes—both litigated and pre action—alongside policy coverage issues and advisory work for major insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates, and corporate clients. You will be expected to run files independently while also contributing to larger, strategically important matters under partner guidance.

Essential Skills & Experience

• We are ideally looking for a candidate with a minimum of 3 PQE. Please note that our PQE levels are a guide and all suitable candidates will be considered.
• The ideal candidate would hold previous experience acting on a range of coverage disputes and advisory matters in the financial, professional and management lines space.
• Hold strong knowledge of the FCA-regulated space and FOS procedure with previous experience working on financial lines and coverage matters.
• Display intellectual versatility and a breath of experience across various coverage and liability matters.
• Display excellent technical legal skills including drafting and strategy management, as well as managing and prioritising a full and varied caseload and supporting in practice management.
• Have connections with clients in the insurance market and have started building a profile and network of contacts and potential clients. Ideally, will have

• The Solicitors Act 1974 requires practicing solicitors to have a practicing certificate.
• Successful completion of a Training Contract (or equivalent) and relevant education (Legal Practice Course; Graduate Diploma in Law (if non Law Graduate).
