Job description

London | International Law Firm

An internationally recognised, sector-focused law firm is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Associate into its highly regarded Construction Disputes team in London.

The firm has an established reputation across the energy, infrastructure and transport sectors, advising on complex, high-value transactions and disputes for an impressive international client base.

The Construction team has a strong track record in achieving positive outcomes for clients and is continuing to grow, securing increasingly large and prestigious mandates. The practice advises on a wide range of construction and infrastructure disputes, alongside providing ongoing project advisory support across major developments and projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Senior Associate to join a growing team, working on complex domestic and international matters across some of the most significant projects in the market.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in handling complex contentious construction and infrastructure matters, including adjudications, expert determinations, High Court litigation and international arbitration.

The team acts across a broad range of sectors, including:

  • Renewable energy, including solar, biomass and onshore and offshore wind.

  • Conventional power, oil and gas, and energy transmission.

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS).

  • Transport infrastructure, including roads, bridges, airports and rail.

  • Social infrastructure, including hospitals.

  • High-end residential and hotel developments.

You will be involved in large-scale, often cross-border disputes, providing strategic advice and live project support, as well as managing matters through to trial, final hearing and appeal where necessary.

The work will also involve advising on jurisdictional, choice of law, procedural and evidential issues in both litigation and arbitration.

The Ideal Candidate

We are keen to hear from experienced construction disputes lawyers who meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with at least 7 years' post-qualification experience in construction dispute resolution.

  • Experience gained within a leading City law firm, or a combination of City private practice and relevant in-house experience.

  • Strong experience in complex construction and infrastructure disputes, both domestically and internationally.

  • Experience across a range of dispute resolution mechanisms, including mediation, adjudication, High Court proceedings (particularly within the Technology and Construction Court), and domestic or international arbitration.

  • Experience of expert determination would be advantageous.

  • Strong technical and legal skills in construction dispute resolution.

  • Experience reviewing, drafting, negotiating and amending construction contracts and associated schedules of amendments.

  • Familiarity with key standard-form construction contracts, particularly JCT, FIDIC and NEC.

  • Excellent academic credentials, with a bright, ambitious and commercially minded approach.

Additional experience that would be advantageous:

  • Exposure to energy projects.

  • Membership of relevant construction industry organisations, such as the Society of Construction Law (SCL) or Technology and Construction Solicitors' Association (TECSA).

The Opportunity

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for a Senior Associate looking to join a growing and ambitious construction disputes practice with an increasingly impressive profile in the market.

You will have the opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-value disputes across the energy, transport and infrastructure sectors, alongside experienced Partners and colleagues across an established international network.

The team is continuing to expand its presence in the market and is increasingly involved in larger and more prestigious mandates, offering excellent exposure to complex work and the opportunity to play an important role in its continued development.

The firm offers a competitive benefits and wellbeing package, alongside a culture that actively supports agile and flexible working arrangements.
