Job Description

Active Equities Europe invests in public equities across all sectors within the EMEA region. We use long-term fundamental and data analysis to inform our security selection. This results in a collection of concentrated, high conviction, single-company investments. We assemble these investments into a long/short, market-neutral portfolio. The result is a portfolio with maximum exposure to fundamental research and data insights.

The Senior Associate will help the EMEA Consumer team conduct independent research, analyse public companies, and generate long-term investment ideas that are expected to result in excess returns.

Role-Specific Accountabilities:

  • Work directly with team members to support the evaluation of potential company investments in Europe, Middle East and Africa across the Consumer sector
  • Participate in meetings with the management of public corporations, industry experts and analyst calls
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Develop company financial models and perform both valuation analysis including absolute and relative valuation multiples, DCF models and comparable company analysis; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
  • Creatively find information and data from a wide range of sources including alternative data in order to help further research analysis
  • Generate and recommend investment ideas across the Consumer investment universe in geographic markets including Europe, Middle East and Africa, although the focus is on Europe
  • Assist with active coverage of existing positions in the portfolio
  • Provide thoughtful input as a thought partner for new and existing positions across the global portfolio

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree from a top tier university
  • Have a track record of academic achievement and professional advancement
  • Experience working for a Public Equities strategy at an investment manager / hedge fund or as an Equity Analyst at a blue-chip investment bank. Consumer domain experience is an asset
  • Excellent research, analytical, financial modeling and valuation skills with ability to present analysis clearly and articulately
  • Ability to source and utilize data from a wide range of sources and formulate an independent view
  • Experience with equity shorts is an asset
  • Experience with alternative data analysis is an asset
  • Problem-solving mindset combined with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and ability to think creatively
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to produce high quality work
  • Demonstrated interest in markets and the investment management process; ability to interpret economic news and market conditions
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship management skills, with excellent abilities as a communicator (oral and written) and as a presenter
  • Advanced computer/technical skills – MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, Bloomberg. Python may be an asset
  • A low ego with a desire to work in a collaborative, collegial culture focused on high performance
