Job overview

The Pharmacy Department at Furness General Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join the team either full time or part time.

Working within the Pharmacy main dispensary and on the wards, the post will involve ordering and dispensing medications for in-patients and those being discharged from hospital. You must be able to work as a team member and on an individual basis.

Working hours will be 9:00 to 17:30 with weekend and Bank Holiday work as part of a rotation.

Contracted working days will be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

Previous Pharmacy experience and an NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services, or other recognised dispensing qualification is essential for the Band 3 grade, together with competent IT skills and good basic education including English and Maths to GCSE level.

A progression / training role will be considered if you do not have the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services. Support will be given to complete the NVQ 2 on annex 21 of a Band 3 grade. Band 3 grade will be awarded on completion of qualification.

Full training will be given to the successful applicants.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications
  • English and Maths GCSE grade C or above
  • NVQ and Btec level 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Completion of a recognised OTC sales course
Experience
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or other Pharmacy Setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
  • JAC trained
  • Experience with clinical trials
  • Experience with Aseptic preparation

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy working procedures and current drugs legislation
