Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Winchester is seeking a Senior Pharmacy Assistant to join our busy dispensary. The role involves dispensing inpatient, discharge and outpatient prescriptions and supporting patient flow in a fast-paced environment across sites.

You will need NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent), excellent communication, and good English and Maths. Computer skills and physical fitness are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent) required.

• Good computer literacy essential.

Responsibilities

• To accurately dispense (including generation of labels) in-patient, discharge, and out-patient prescriptions.
• To answer telephones promptly and politely, dealing with queries, relaying complete and accurate information.
• To recognise self-limitations and refer to an appropriate person when required.
• To dispense controlled drugs.
• To receive out-patient prescriptions in the dispensary.
• To hand to the patient or carer, out-patient prescriptions if deemed appropriate by the Responsible Pharmacist.
• To be responsible for the accurate input of data into the pharmacy JAC computer systems for all duties requiring its use (labelling, returns etc.).
• To dispense cytotoxic medicines following COSHH regulations.
• To produce consistently reliable and accurate work in a timely manner.
• To perform general housekeeping duties within the dispensaries including cleaning dispensary equipment and ensuring that there are sufficient quantities of sundry items available.
• To contribute to the quality improvement of the pharmacy service contributing to audits, practice changes and reviews of the processes.
• To achieve objectives agreed at Individual Performance Review with line manager.

You will need to possess an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent), and all applicants must have excellent communication skills, be flexible and be able to work accurately under pressure.
