Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity within the Radiotherapy Planning department for a full time, Band 3 Senior Assistant Clinical Support Practitioner (Radiotherapy Physics), to join the administration team based at Derriford Hospital. The post holder will provide clerical services for the Radiotherapy Physics section within the Healthcare Science and Technology Directorate. The role requires adaptability, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to manage a variety of tasks to meet deadlines. A friendly and approachable nature is essential as you will interact with patients along the radiotherapy treatment pathway.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate and deliver a comprehensive Admin service to Radiotherapy Physics in an efficient and timely manner, primarily supporting the Stereotactic and External Beam Radiotherapy services.
  • Work on own initiative with good communications between the team, patients, carers and other health professionals.
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of patient treatment pathways.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the Trust Code of Practice.
  • Work in line with the Trust values and professional policies / codes of conduct.
  • Prioritise demand, accommodate unplanned events and work without direct supervision.
Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 in either business administration or related subject or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Desirable

  • Qualified in word processing or typing qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a wide range of administrative and secretarial tasks to a high standard in a patient/service focused environment.
  • Able to exercise own initiative and prioritise/manage own workload, without direct supervision.
  • Well-developed IT skills, able to accurately manage, manipulate and report information in multiple formats (tracker lists, spreadsheets, databases, etc.).

Desirable

  • Understanding of scientific and medical terms.
  • Patient management systems demonstrable experience.
Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • High standard of literacy & numerical accuracy.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to people of all ages and types (empathy, compassion).
  • Adaptability, flexibility and ability to manage unpredictable work demands, work patterns and interruptions within the routine workday.
  • Able to undertake duties at a PC workstation for prolonged periods.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances with patients and relatives attending the Plymouth Oncology centre.
  • Tactfully and confidentially communicate written and verbal information.
  • Able to cope with the sensitive nature of the work.
