Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contractor at Canva you can work remotely in from anywhere in the United Kingdom, meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us. Please note, this is a remote 6-month contract role with flexible working hours, but you’ll need to balance your schedule to accommodate occasional global team meetings in the evening (6-9 PM).

What you’d be doing in this role

As a Senior Art Director, you’ll collaborate closely with the Creative Director to elevate Canva’s visual presence across the European market. Partnering with a talented team, including copywriters, strategists and freelancers, you’ll ideate, design and execute for projects that elevate our brand — primarily working across Performance Marketing you’ll help create scroll-stopping performance ads from statics to UGC style and full production videos that build Canva’s brand and performance across Europe.

Design and Art-Direction expertise is essential to the role. We’re looking for someone who can bring concepts to life with creativity, attention to detail, and a strong grasp of motion design. This role is perfect for a versatile individual with the ability to tell powerful stories through their work and guide others in brining to life theirs.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Leading the visual direction for performance campaigns, keeping every project fresh, engaging and innovative.
  • Designing simple, powerful ads and storyboards for social content and hype reels that bring Canva to life.
  • Confidently pitch concepts and present work to senior creative leaders, product marketing managers, and stakeholders, clearly articulating the creative vision and strategic approach.
  • Writing with the same creativity and clarity you bring to your designs.
  • Collaborating with external vendors, providing clear art direction guidance and feedback to help elevate their work.
  • Working closely with the Creative Director to ensure schedules are accurate and realistic and that deadlines are met.

You're probably a match if

  • You have proven and relevant experience in advertising, social and design.
  • We’re looking for someone with strong design and art direction skills and a solid understanding of motion design, with experience leading projects from start to finish.
  • An understanding that spans digital design, product design is key to ensuring that your vision is fully realised.
  • You're passionate about exceptional art direction and design that’s not just beautiful but also thoughtful, meaningful, and, when it needs to be, provocative.
  • Bonus points if you’ve art-directed films or photoshoots before.
  • You’re excited to jump on Canva to design.
  • Native-level English. Additional languages are a plus (French, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, German).
