Job summary

A leading architectural firm in London is seeking a proactive Technical Architect or Technician with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience. The role involves joining the technical design team, managing large-scale residential projects, and ensuring compliance with UK building regulations. Ideal candidates will have strong design and technical skills, proficiency in AutoCAD, and a flexible attitude towards work. No sponsorship is offered.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Our client is a friendly, east London practice of around 13 people, that primarily focus on residential, commercial and masterplans. They are now looking for a full time,mature minded, energetic and proactive Technical Architect or Technician with at least 10 years post qualification experience and 5 years of site experience on large scale residential projects.

We need you to:

  • Join the technical design team for residential conversion and regeneration projects.
  • Develop and manage detailed drawing packages from Stage 4 through Stage 5
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and specialist subcontractors to resolve design and site challenges
  • Oversee the integration of new-build and refurbishment elements, ensuring seamless coordination
  • Manage design detailing, material selection, and construction sequencing
  • Coordinate and oversee on-site technical delivery and contractor engagement
  • Maintain excellent communication with the wider project team to ensure smooth project execution.

Candidates should:

  • Demonstrate design and technical aptitude, with developing design and technical confidence;
  • Have experience across all RIBA Stages (3–7), with expertise in project delivery from concept to completion.
  • Have a solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and standards, including National Described Space Standards.
  • Ideally have working knowledge of the Permitted Development Regulations.
  • Be self-driven and motivated;
  • Have a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and the ability to handle multiple roles and responsibilities within a busy office;
  • Have strong 2D and 3D drawing skills;
  • Be proficient in AutoCAD and a working knowledge of Revit (or similar software).
  • Be well organised with good time management;
  • Have worked on projects through all RIBA work stages;
  • At least 10 years of post-Part III experience.
  • Have a proficient level of spoken and written English (IELTS 7-8, TOEFL iBT 94-109, TOEIC 901+ or CAMBRIDGE CPE).
