We're offering an exciting opportunity for a talented senior architect to join our growing Birmingham team and play a key role in delivering high-quality residential projects across a range of scales and typologies.

A bit about us

Stride Treglown is an employee-owned architectural practice and certified B Corp.

We're now one of the UK's largest architectural practices, with 300+ specialists in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, masterplanning, town planning, and graphic design.

Across 9 UK studios, we're embedded in the communities we live and work, bringing imagination and flair to every project- with the technical proficiency to deliver what we design.

We're great team players who strive for excellence and care how we achieve it. That's why we promote design that isn't driven by ego, but by purpose.

Senior Architect

We are seeking an experienced, job-running Senior Architect with a proven track record in the design and delivery of residential projects to join our Birmingham studio. This role would suit someone with strong leadership skills who can successfully manage projects, build client relationships and support the development of junior team members.

Our residential sector continues to grow, with opportunities spanning build-to-rent, affordable housing, mixed-use developments, later living, regeneration and sustainable neighbourhoods. We are particularly interested in architects who are passionate about creating high-quality homes and thriving communities while responding to the challenges of sustainable design and net-zero carbon ambitions.

You will have
  • Between 5 and 10 years' post-qualification experience, ideally gained within the residential sector.
  • A passion for residential design and placemaking
  • Experience designing and delivering residential projects from concept through to completion
  • A desire to create thoughtful, sustainable and people-centred places
  • Professional experience within a high-quality, design-focused practice
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior colleagues
  • An interest in projects ranging from individual residential developments to large-scale masterplanned communities
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • Excellent drawing, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach to working with clients, consultants and colleagues
  • Managing client relationships is key to this role and will include
  • Becoming involved at any stage of a project and contributing effectively with minimal briefing
  • Leading multiple or complex projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to client satisfaction
  • Leading client meetings, presentations and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Taking the lead in briefing, concept design, planning submissions and detailed design development
  • Managing and coordinating project teams, consultants and stakeholders
  • Demonstrating a positive impact on team performance and collaboration across the practice
  • Managing project fees and invoicing, with administrative support
  • Supporting business development activities and contributing to winning new work
  • Promoting the practice through networking, industry engagement and positive project outcomes
Essential skills
  • Significant residential sector experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit
  • Qualified to RIBA Part 3 level (or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience
  • Experience delivering projects through planning and construction stages
  • Experience in residential refurbishment, retrofit and regeneration projects
  • Experience of working within the Building Safety Act 2022 framework, including Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs), Gateway submissions, and regulatory engagement throughout design and construction phases
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • An understanding of client and stakeholder management within the residential sector
  • Experience leading projects with construction values ranging from £5m to £50m+
  • Ability to manage the design process through all RIBA stages
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable skills
  • Experience of large-scale residential masterplanning
  • Level 2 BIM experience
  • Knowledge of MMC and modern construction methodologies
  • Experience working on later living or senior living projects
  • Understanding of sustainable design, low-carbon construction and net-zero strategies
  • Experience supporting planning applications and stakeholder consultation
What we can offer
  • Salary £42,000 to £47,000 (depending on experience)
  • Part-time (minimum 80% FTE) or full-time hours
  • Flexible and hybrid working environment
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • A contemporary working environment
  • A friendly, open and supportive culture
  • The opportunity to become an owner of the business through our employee ownership model
