Job summary

AECOM in the UK is seeking an experienced Principal Aquatic Ecologist to join the Aquatic Ecology Team. This role can be based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin or Belfast.

You’ll lead ecological assessments for major infrastructure projects, provide technical leadership, mentor team members and contribute to EIA work, fish passage, habitat restoration and water quality investigations across the UK and Ireland.

Qualifications

• Experience in ecological impact assessment (EcIA/EIA).
• Experience with WFD compliance assessment.
• Understanding monitoring techniques for aquatic ecology and associated permitting requirements.
• Knowledge of industry-standard WFD-compliant monitoring techniques.
• Knowledge of legislation relating to aquatic environments, especially the Water Framework Directive.

Responsibilities

• Play a key role in a team of aquatic ecologists across the UK and Ireland.
• Support the Team Leader with business development in Scotland and beyond.
• Provide technical leadership in aquatic ecology across projects.
• Input aquatic ecology into EIAs, planning, mitigation and multi-disciplinary projects.
• Mentor and line-manage Aquatic Ecology team members.
• Author and review technical reports with multi-disciplinary input.
• Develop data analysis and processing methods.
• Produce Ecological Impact Assessments aligned with CIEEM guidelines.
• Manage aquatic ecology input into projects including survey design and costing.
• Support the wider environmental business.
