Job summary

Scale seeks a Staff Applied AI Engineer to raise the bar for building, governing, and evaluating AI across the Global Public Sector team. You will define adopted standards for evaluation methodologies, agent design, and MLOps, acting as the senior technical voice on critical AI decisions for clients.

You will lead high-risk AI components, drive architecture decisions, and mentor Senior Engineers while collaborating with executive clients on AI strategy and roadmap.

Qualifications

• Ownership of AI/ML production systems and governance.
• Ability to judge training data quality and model adaptation choices.
• Experience evaluating fine-tuning results and balancing latency, cost and quality.
• Proven track record in setting standards and architectural patterns.

Responsibilities

• Define standards for responsible AI and production MLOps adopted across teams.
• Build or validate high-risk AI components and establish cross-team standards.
• Architect AI systems to prevent systemic failure and manage safety incidents.
• Create reusable AI capabilities for engineers and clients to leverage.
• Advise on new AI developments and shape technical roadmaps.
