Job summary

Deliveroo in London is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to own the SDUI Android rendering layer and related backend services. You will drive architectural improvements, mentor teammates, and collaborate with iOS/Web and product/design teams to rollout scalable UI solutions.

The role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically three days in the office. Strong Kotlin and Android experience are essential.

Qualifications

5+ years building Android applications at scale.
Deep understanding of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
Backend development experience with Golang, Kotlin, and Protobuf.
Experience building or maintaining a server-driven / declarative UI system.
Product-minded with the instinct to design platform services for teams.
Demonstrated ownership of technical delivery within cross-functional teams.
Strong communication across time zones with iOS, Web, Backend, and PMs.
Commitment to readable, well-designed, and thoroughly tested mobile code.

Responsibilities

Drive technical execution by designing, building, and evolving the Android SDUI renderer and the backend services (Kotlin, Golang, Protobuf) that feed it.
Lead architectural improvements and code reviews for maintainability and operational health.
Partner with iOS and Web renderer engineers, product and design teams to plan rollouts and align decisions.
Own large-scale initiatives from design to delivery, including motion and native-equivalent interactions.
Mentor colleagues and participate in the engineering hiring process.
