Analytics Engineering at Marshmallow

Our mission is to become the go-to insurer for people moving to the UK, building a platform for multiple products beyond car insurance, such as multi-car plans and car finance. Data is central to this transformation. Our Data Engineering team enables faster, smarter, and more innovative scaling, fostering a data-driven, multi-product culture through self-service, automation, and real-time insights.

What You'll Be Doing

Build for a Multi-Product World
  • Data Modelling at Scale: Design and maintain scalable, reliable data models supporting various products and customer journeys, ensuring consistency across insurance, payments, retention, claims, fraud, and future offerings like car finance.
  • Cross-Domain Collaboration: Work with product, operations, fraud, claims, retention, and growth teams to create datasets that enable real-time decisions, personalization, and pricing optimization.
Lead, Mentor, and Set Standards
  • Champion Modern Best Practices: Lead as the subject matter expert for tools like DBT, Snowflake, and Looker, establishing standards for building, testing, and optimizing multi-product data models.
  • Coach Across the Business: Support analysts, scientists, and engineers in self-service by developing curated data layers and reusable tools.
Enable Fast, Autonomous Growth
  • Optimise for Speed and Cost: Enhance our data platform for faster queries, lower costs, and seamless onboarding of new products to facilitate rapid experimentation and scaling.
  • Data as a Product: Treat data models as products—reliable, observable, and impactful across various offerings.
Solve Hard Problems
  • Own the Full Stack: Develop deep expertise in our data platform (AWS, Snowflake, DBT, Looker, orchestration frameworks) to deliver reliable solutions quickly.
  • Automation & Efficiency: Focus on automation and reusability to scale multiple product lines efficiently.
Who You Are
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with production-grade ETLs, data warehousing, data modeling, proficiency in SQL, and understanding Snowflake architecture.
  • Tooling Mastery: Hands-on with DBT, Looker or similar BI tools, and orchestration frameworks like Airflow or AWS Step Functions.
  • Mindset: Proactive, customer-focused, viewing data as a product with scalability and self-service in mind.
  • Collaborative Leader: Enjoy partnering with analysts, engineers, and product teams to deliver value iteratively.
  • Bonus Points: Experience with Python, Java, cloud infrastructure (AWS), or backgrounds in insurance, fintech, or regulated industries; enthusiasm for building a multi-product ecosystem.
