Job summary

Elsevier seeks a Senior Data Scientist I to design, build, and evaluate advanced AI capabilities powering LeapSpace. You will prototype LLM-powered workflows, integrate large language models with trusted scientific data, and shape AI-assisted research experiences.

The role covers NLP, retrieval pipelines, and AI evaluation, with a focus on scalable production systems. Strong programming and research background in AI is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in CS, data science, ML, NLP, IR or related field.
• Significant experience with applied AI, ML, NLP, or information retrieval.
• Hands-on with LLM-based applications, RAG pipelines, and retrieval systems.
• Strong Python and modern ML tooling proficiency; experience with PyTorch.

Responsibilities

• Lead prototyping of LLM-powered research workflows and agentic AI.
• Design and evaluate NLP, retrieval, and reasoning components.
• Collaborate to productionize AI and retrieval systems with rigorous evaluation.
• Contribute to prompt engineering, grounding strategies, and trust.
