Job summary

Centrica is hiring a Senior AI Engineer to own the intelligence layer of our agentic products across voice, chat and email channels. You will design, build and govern end-to-end AI services on Bedrock and AgentCore Runtime, balancing performance, safety and cost while partnering with product and governance boards.

You will lead retrieval augmented generation, tool calls, and state management, delivering reliable experiences for customers and internal teams in a UK-based hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• Proven delivery of LLM/agentic systems in production for real users.
• Experience with tool and function calling, multi-step agent orchestration, and managing conversational state across turns.
• Experience with retrieval augmented generation and eval harnesses.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic services on Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore Runtime, including multi-step orchestration and memory management.
• Own the tool layer exposing business capabilities such as account lookup, billing and identity with reliable actions.
• Build retrieval augmented generation over Bedrock Knowledge Bases with content prep, chunking, embedding, and grounding.
• Version prompts as engineering artefacts; test and track changes with governance.
• Define evaluation metrics (accuracy, containment, safety) and enable shipping with evidence.
• Implement guardrails and safety controls, including PII handling and escalation to humans.
• Optimize latency and cost through streaming, routing, and caching; ensure real-time performance in voice.
• Instrument agent behavior end-to-end using Datadog and QuickSight; diagnose incidents and apply fixes.
• Document architecture decisions (ADRs) and drive changes through AI governance.
• Track AI landscape shifts and integrate benefits into roadmaps with risk assessments.
