Job summary

EMBL-EBI is seeking a Senior Solution Architect to lead digital experience initiatives, shaping AI-enabled services, APIs, and integrated platforms across the organisation. You will bridge UX and engineering, mentor teams and set architectural direction for modern digital services.

You will collaborate with UX, product and design colleagues to translate user needs into sustainable technical solutions, while upholding security, privacy and accessibility standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a senior Solution architecture role, Digital architecture or software engineering lead.
• Practical experience designing AI-enabled digital services including LLM-based patterns and AI orchestration.
• Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, cloud/containerised architectures, CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience mentoring teams and working with UX/product/design to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Ability to explain complex concepts and manage stakeholders; awareness of security, privacy and accessibility considerations.

Responsibilities

• Lead solution architecture for digital experience initiatives across web apps, APIs, content platforms and AI-enabled services.
• Shape AI-enabled digital services using LLMs, retrieval‑augmented generation, intelligent agents and semantic search.
• Bridge UX and engineering by translating user journeys into sustainable, accessible architectures.
• Provide technical leadership through discovery, prototyping, implementation and production.
• Lead and develop the development team with mentoring and capability building in modern software and AI engineering.
• Design integrations across APIs, data sources, and enterprise systems within EMBL-EBI’s digital landscape.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to balance technical, user and organisational needs.
