In a nutshell
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced consultant with significant Scrum Master experience. Candidates with a background in Product Ownership or Product Management are welcome, provided they are willing and able to take on Scrum Master responsibilities as needed. This role spans the full software development lifecycle, involving close collaboration with Developers, Product Owners and other stakeholders to enhance team performance, drive efficiency, and uphold Agile principles. We’re looking for a process-oriented professional who is keen to contribute to and help shape our evolving Agile practice.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies: Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives to ensure structured, value-focused collaboration across client projects.
- Remove blockers: Actively identify and address impediments that may hinder the team's delivery, both internally and within client environments.
- Clarify backlog items: Collaborate with Product Owners and Developers to ensure backlog items are clearly defined and refined to support smooth sprint delivery.
- Support team accountability: Help teams stay focused, committed, and consistent in delivering value each sprint.
- Foster transparency and trust: Encourage open communication between clients and delivery teams, providing clear visibility into progress, challenges, and outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement: Lead retrospectives that surface insights and drive improvements in team dynamics and delivery quality.
- Manage risks and dependencies: Proactively flag and manage cross-team and external dependencies, ensuring smooth coordination across projects.
- Use Agile metrics effectively: Track team health and delivery metrics (e.g., velocity, burndown charts) to inform decisions and support client reporting.
Product Owner Responsibilities (when assigned)
- Own the product vision: Work with clients to shape and communicate a clear product strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
- Prioritise for value: Maintain and prioritise product backlogs to ensure the most valuable and time-sensitive work is delivered first.
- Gather and define requirements: Collaborate with clients, users, and developers to craft clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Be the client’s voice of the user: Champion customer needs throughout the design and delivery process, ensuring the end product delivers real impact.
- Build strong client relationships: Act as a trusted advisor, managing stakeholder expectations and aligning development efforts with evolving business needs.
- Measure product success: Define and track success metrics to inform iteration planning and guide strategic decisions.
- Oversee releases: Coordinate release planning and deployment, ensuring smooth transitions and effective communication with all stakeholders.
Consulting and Leadership (Agile Practice)
- Tailor Agile for clients: Collaborate with the Head of Product Engineering to adapt Agile approaches to each client’s context, balancing structure with flexibility.
- Coach and mentor teams: Build Agile maturity in internal and client teams through coaching, facilitation and hands-on support.
- Lead by example: Demonstrate strong Agile leadership, facilitating collaboration, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset across all engagements.
- Grow Agile capability: Contribute to shaping and evolving our consultancy’s Agile practice, sharing knowledge and driving excellence in delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Significant experience as a Scrum Master within software development or digital transformation projects. Experience in consultancy settings and/or as a Product Owner or Product Manager is welcome but not essential.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex business problems into clear, actionable product and delivery plans.
- Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from discovery and user research through to delivery and iteration, enabling effective collaboration with delivery teams and stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience in backlog ownership, including writing and refining user stories, prioritising features, and maintaining a clear, value-driven roadmap.
- Demonstrated ability to engage directly with clients and senior stakeholders, gathering and validating requirements, managing competing priorities, and ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Track record of delivering end-to-end digital products and services within Agile, cross-functional teams in fast-paced and client-facing settings.
- Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills, with the confidence to facilitate conversations, lead workshops, and influence decision-making.
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, ensuring focus on outcomes, value, and client satisfaction.
- Alignment with our core values:
- Open and Honest: Communicates clearly, transparently, and with integrity.
- Can-Do Attitude: Brings energy, flexibility, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Collaborative: Works well across teams and with clients, valuing diverse perspectives.
- Leading by Example: Demonstrates ownership, initiative, and high professional standards.
