Emergency Medicine: Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner

We have an exciting development opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced professional who would like to extend their scope of practice to an advanced level.

Where required, the post holder will be expected to undertake a four-year training programme under Annex 21 (Band 8a) working towards achieving a level 7 qualification in advanced practice and local consultant sign-off as an EM:ACP.

Annex 21 remuneration applies (60% of the top of Band 8a pay for Year 1, 65% for Year 2, 70% for Year 3, 75% for Year 4).

Main duties of the job

• The post holder will work as part of the clinical team in the ED and will be committed to a pathway of training and education aligned with registration with RCEM as an EM-ACP.
• Within the ED, there is substantial exposure to a wide range of EM cases, from seriously ill or injured adults and children to minor injuries, offering ample opportunities to develop EM procedural skills.
• Weekly departmental training supports knowledge and skill acquisition. You will also be allocated a consultant clinical supervisor and a qualified ACP mentor to support your transition into the department.
• Your role will have an 80/20 split with clinical time and protected SPA time to support your growth across all 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Clinical Practice

• Provide evidence-based care supporting effective and efficient resource use.
• Conduct advanced assessments through detailed history taking, physiological examinations, and diagnostic testing.
• Request further investigations such as ECGs, blood tests, and imaging as needed.
• Utilize a range of expanded clinical skills, e.g., intravenous injections, suturing, blood gas analysis.

Education

• Undertake role-specific training programs.
• Evaluate and seek feedback on own practice.
• Act as a resource for students, junior staff, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide specialist training for other professionals.

Leadership and Management
