Job summary

BMS Group in London seeks a Senior Actuary to join the UK Specialty and UK & International Actuarial team. This newly created role strengthens actuarial capability, governance and peer review, and develops the next generation of actuarial talent within BMS.

You will work with brokers, clients and catastrophe analysts to provide actuarial insight across portfolios, combining technical excellence with stakeholder engagement to influence strategic initiatives and business growth.

Qualifications

  • Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or equivalent professional actuarial qualification.
  • Extensive actuarial experience in insurance, reinsurance, broking, consulting, or related environments.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial methodologies, portfolio analytics and pricing concepts.
  • Proven experience delivering actuarial solutions in client-facing environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver actuarial analyses to support programme design, retention selection and limit optimisation across insurance and reinsurance.
  • Provide high-quality actuarial input into renewal and new business opportunities in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to client pitches, RFPs and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Act as a senior technical resource within the actuarial team, providing guidance and expert judgement on complex assignments.
  • Perform peer reviews of analyses and modelling outputs to ensure technical quality and robustness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Present actuarial findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support client meetings and business development activities as a trusted adviser.
  • Mentor and coach junior actuaries and contribute to knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Support development of actuarial standards, methodologies and best practices.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Actuary to join our UK Specialty and UK & International Actuarial team in London. This is a newly created role reflecting the continued growth of the business, increasing client demand, and the expanding scope of actuarial support required across both Specialty and Reinsurance. The role will play a critical part in strengthening the actuarial capability of the team, providing senior technical expertise, supporting governance and peer review requirements, and helping to develop the next generation of actuarial talent within BMS.

As a senior member of the Analytics function, you will work closely with brokers, clients, catastrophe analysts, and senior stakeholders to provide actuarial insight across a broad range of portfolios and transactions. The role combines technical excellence with strong stakeholder engagement and offers the opportunity to influence strategic initiatives, enhance analytical capabilities, and contribute to the long-term growth of the business.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver actuarial analyses that support programme design, retention selection and limit optimisation across insurance and reinsurance placements across Specialty and International business lines.
  • Provide and deliver high-quality actuarial input into both renewal business and new business opportunities in a timely manner. Help to sustain client delivery, manage increased demand, and strengthen technical governance effectively.
  • Contribute to client pitches, request for proposal (RFPs) and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Act as a senior technical resource within the actuarial team, providing guidance, challenge, and expert judgement on complex assignments.
  • Perform peer review of actuarial analyses and modelling outputs to ensure technical quality and robustness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Present actuarial findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support client meetings and business development activities, acting as a trusted actuarial adviser.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the development of trainee and junior actuaries.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer across the team and contribute to building long-term actuarial capability.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives supporting the growth and development of the Analytics function.
  • Support the ongoing development of actuarial standards, methodologies, and best practices in the team.
What We're Looking For – Functional & Behavioural Competencies
  • Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or equivalent professional actuarial qualification.
  • Significant actuarial experience gained within insurance, reinsurance, broking, consulting, or a related environment.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial methodologies, portfolio analytics and pricing concepts.
  • Proven experience delivering actuarial solutions in client-facing environments.
  • Experience reviewing and validating technical actuarial work.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
