Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a proactive active travel engineer to lead and deliver UK-wide projects from Glasgow or Edinburgh. You will produce technical outputs, mentor colleagues, and coordinate client-facing activities while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes design excellence, stakeholder engagement, and development of integrated active travel solutions within urban environments.

Qualifications

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar.
Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
Demonstrable experience in designing and delivering active travel infrastructure.
Experience designing and retrofitting schemes within urban environments.
Strong understanding of guidance and standards including Cycling by Design and Designing Streets.

Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of active travel projects and technical work packages.
Coordinate production of reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and technicians.
Mentor and coach team members and contribute to staff development.
Review and check outputs prepared by others.
Liaise with clients and stakeholders, explaining technical solutions to all audiences.
Support resource planning, programme management and project delivery activities.
Identify and respond to project risks and opportunities.
Support business development through networking and client engagement.
Collaborate with other disciplines to develop integrated solutions.
