Job Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 per annum

Job Type: Permanent Full Time

Working Hours: 9am to 5.30pm (Inclusive of 1 hour lunch break), Monday to Friday

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be ACCA/ACA qualified with substantial experience working in an accountancy practice. This role is pivotal in managing client relationships, overseeing junior team members, and delivering high-quality financial and advisory services. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements and reports for a variety of clients.
  • Manage and maintain client accounts and records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare VAT returns and assist with tax computations.
  • Liaise with clients to resolve queries and provide financial advice.
  • Support directors with ad-hoc tasks and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial forecasts.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to clients, including cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and business planning.
  • Provide training and support to junior staff members.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Fully qualified ACCA/ACA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (UK GAAP/IFRS) and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. TaxCalc, Iris, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to clients.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Solid IT knowledge and adaptability to new technologies.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting platforms and emerging technologies in the industry to assist with project works undertaken by the firm such as system migrations and discovery reports.
