The Role

An established and growing organisation is looking to appoint a Senior Accountant to join its finance function at an important stage of development.

This is a broad, hands‑on accounting position suited to a technically capable finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of financial control, reporting and compliance. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing robust processes and controls as the business expands and moves towards its first statutory audit under a new group structure.

Reporting to the Head of Finance & Administration, you will work closely with colleagues across finance and the wider business, ensuring the accuracy of financial information while helping to improve the way the finance function operates.

The role offers an excellent opportunity to make a tangible impact within a growing organisation, with scope to contribute to wider finance and business improvement initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Financial Accounting & Control

  • Manage core financial control activities across a number of group companies.

  • Complete and oversee bank, balance sheet, general ledger and intercompany reconciliations.

  • Manage accruals, prepayments and other month‑end accounting adjustments.

  • Take ownership of the month‑end close, ensuring management accounts are delivered accurately and on time.

  • Prepare and analyse financial information at departmental, individual entity and consolidated group level.

  • Produce consolidated cash flow forecasts and support effective cash management across the group.

  • Maintain accurate fixed asset records, including additions, disposals and depreciation.

  • Help develop and formalise month‑end processes, financial controls, approval procedures and segregation of duties.

  • Identify opportunities to improve the strength and efficiency of existing financial controls.

Reporting, Audit & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for senior management, incorporating KPIs, budgets and detailed variance analysis.

  • Investigate significant movements within departmental and general ledger accounts, providing clear explanations against budget and previous periods.

  • Support UK and international VAT reporting, payroll‑related reporting and corporation tax calculations.

  • Assist with statutory and regulatory financial requirements across individual entities and the wider group.

  • Take a leading role in preparing the finance function for the statutory audit and work closely with external auditors throughout the process.

  • Support year‑end accounts preparation, including group consolidation and statutory disclosures.

  • Assist with accounting and reporting requirements relating to intercompany transactions, transfer pricing, goodwill, intangible assets and related‑party transactions.

  • Contribute to finance projects designed to support the organisation's continued growth and evolving group structure.

Commercial & Business Support

  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.

  • Provide financial information, analysis and guidance to operational teams to support sound commercial decisions.

  • Provide finance support as the business develops its international operations.

  • Assist with areas including multi‑currency accounting, international compliance, revenue recognition and the development of scalable finance processes.

About You

We are looking for a qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge and relevant post‑qualification experience.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA or equivalent.

  • Relevant post‑qualification experience in a financial accounting/control environment.

  • Strong understanding of financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations and month‑end processes.

  • Good technical knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102.

  • Previous audit exposure is highly desirable, either from practice or industry.

  • Experience preparing accurate management accounts and financial analysis.

  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

  • Advanced Excel capability, with confidence working with financial systems and substantial datasets.

  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders and external auditors.
