Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Senior Accountant to join our Ground Engineering Business, supporting Lower Thames Crossing, from our JV office in Tillbury. We offer design, construction and commissioning services and EPC project delivery across regulated and private sectors.

A Day in the life of a Murphy Senior Accountant includes providing JV performance insights through monthly management accounts, board papers, and coordinating month-end/ year-end close, while ensuring robust reconciliations and cost

Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA/ACMA/ACCA) or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in a business partnering or business support role.
• Experience of complex financial modelling and investment appraisal.
• Experience of various software applications to assemble, manipulate and report data.

Responsibilities

• Provide managers and JV partners with an integrated view of financial performance, early warnings on significant changes in expected performance and suggested corrective actions through the provision of comprehensive monthly management accounts supported by detailed overhead and cost tracking and analysis, together with quarterly reviews and forecasts.
• Produce financial papers for the JV board with high quality, relevant financial information and analysis, with supporting commentary and recommendations.
• Own the month-end and year-end closing process for the joint venture.
• Prepare timely, comprehensive and accurate balance sheet reconciliations with full supporting documentation and action plans for any reconciling items as appropriate.
• With relevant business stakeholders, help develop and maintain a cost control focus.
• Manage the financial impacts of the Secondment Agreement and Service Level Agreement to ensure that all relevant costs are identified and recovered in a timely manner
• Implement and monitor appropriate financial controls and governance by adhering to the group accounting manual, policies and control framework, to support successful external audit outcomes and to minimising the risk of fraud and loss of process.
• Ensure that finance input to the business is welcomed, trusted and respected as adding value whilst maintaining financial discipline.
