Senior Accountant
Overview:
The position reports to the Director, UK Controller, and is part of the Europe Regional Controller’s group.
The Europe Controllers Group is responsible for ensuring the integrity of US GAAP financials in partnership with the GBSC (Global Business Service Center), ensuring local statutory reporting compliance, and supporting business teams across various areas including accounting and controls.
The role covers controller activities in the UK, supporting Mastercard UK Management Services Limited (MUMSL) and Mastercard Europe Services Limited (MESL).
The Controller activities include:
- Integrity of the Financials: Ensuring the financial statements for their businesses are appropriate, including management reporting and statutory filings.
- Business Advice: Providing guidance on proper accounting and reporting for transactions, customer deals, expenses, and other areas.
- Risk and Control Framework: Playing a critical role in the First Line of Defense, ensuring efficient processes with effective controls using ORM methodologies and policies.
Role Responsibilities:
- Oversee the integrity of financial records of UK-based legal entities according to MasterCard policies, in partnership with the GBSC.
- Manage statutory account audits for UK entities and provide quarterly disclosure information to MasterCard Corporate Group.
- Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and other third parties involved in statutory reporting.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, assessing and communicating key risks and opportunities.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statement monitoring controls for management review.
- Maintain and improve internal control environment, ensuring scalability and compliance with MasterCard procedures.
- Document financial and business processes across the group.
- Provide ad hoc support for Tax and Treasury activities, including cash flow forecasts and interim accounts.

Key competencies include:
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification
- Experience with US GAAP, IFRS, and UK statutory accounting and reporting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with Big 10 or Financial Statement Generation Providers preferred
- Liaising with external auditors experience
- Operational and financial control assessment experience
- Leading process improvements and developing procedures
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Excel (VBA skills advantageous)
- Excellent communication skills
