Job summary

Halliday Marx has partnered with an international accounting firm to hire a Senior Accountant on a permanent basis in London. The role is hybrid, with 3 days in the office in Central London, and involves overseeing a portfolio of retail clients, staff supervision, and ensuring high-quality delivery and regulatory compliance.

You will review management accounts, VAT, payroll, corporation tax computations and returns, while supporting statutory accounts and client audits.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a portfolio of clients, including retail clients.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop staff.
• Strong understanding of UK accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the team’s client portfolio with a focus on accurate, high-quality service delivery.
• Review and validate client deliverables including management accounts and VAT/payroll compliance.
• Support statutory accounts, corporation tax computations and returns, and audits.
• Ensure timely regulatory filings and deadlines are met.
• Line manage junior team members with clear direction and feedback.
• Provide technical guidance and training to maintain UK compliance standards.
• Monitor workloads, deadlines and internal procedures to ensure consistency.
• Coordinate onboarding and handovers for new clients and maintain effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the team’s client portfolio, ensuring consistent, accurate and high-quality service delivery.
• Review and validate client deliverables, including management accounts, VAT returns, payroll and PAYE compliance.
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts, corporation tax computations and returns, and client audit requirements.
• Ensure all statutory and regulatory filings are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
• Line manage junior team members, providing clear direction, workload priorities and ongoing performance feedback.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and training to support team development and maintain UK compliance standards.
• Monitor client portfolios and team workloads to ensure deadlines, quality standards and internal procedures are consistently met.
• Support resource planning, monitor workflow systems and identify potential capacity issues or delivery risks.
• Build strong client relationships by understanding their businesses, identifying their needs and recommending additional services where appropriate.
• Act as a key point of contact for client queries, providing timely updates and escalating complex issues to senior management when required.
• Coordinate new client onboarding and account handovers, ensuring smooth transitions, accurate documentation and effective communication.
• Report on team performance, progress, resourcing requirements and potential risks, working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver effective client outcomes.

Requirements

• Experience managing a portfolio of retail clients
• Part qualified having actually sat exams, not purely from exemptions
• Minimum of 3 years experience managing a portfolio of clients within a small-mid sized accounting practice
