Senior Accountant Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 Location: Chelmsford - hybrid working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Accountant to join a respected accountancy firm based in Chelmsford, offering a competitive salary of £40,000 - £50,000 and the flexibility to work from home two days per week. What you'll do:

As a Senior Accountant based in Chelmsford, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for preparing statutory accounts, managing tax returns, producing management reports, and finalising financial statements for an array of clients. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with the Director to deliver tailored solutions that meet each client's unique needs. You will have autonomy over your workflow while benefiting from guidance when required. Building lasting relationships with clients will be central to your success; you'll regularly interact with them both remotely and on-site. In addition to core accounting duties, you'll contribute to ad-hoc projects that broaden your experience. Your ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently-while maintaining accuracy-will ensure you consistently deliver outstanding results within set timelines.
  • Prepare and complete statutory accounts and year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Manage a varied client portfolio with turnovers up to £4 million, including owner-managed businesses, property investors, developers, agricultural enterprises, and retailers.
  • Prepare corporation tax returns accurately and efficiently for a wide range of clients.
  • Produce monthly or quarterly management accounts that include comprehensive forecasting and budgeting analysis.
  • Finalise accounts under the overall supervision of the Director while ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
  • Undertake company secretarial work as required to support clients' regulatory obligations.
  • Organise your own workflow effectively by allocating assignments appropriately and managing time to ensure completion within agreed deadlines and budgets.
  • Liaise professionally with third parties such as HMRC and mortgage brokers to facilitate smooth client operations.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by attending client premises when necessary and providing responsive support.
  • Resolve ongoing client queries promptly while escalating complex issues as needed and participating in ad-hoc client projects.
What you bring:
  • Demonstrated experience working within an accountancy practice environment where you have managed diverse client portfolios. This is none negotiable.
  • AAT, ACA or ACCA qualified/part-qualified status or equivalent qualification by experience is essential for this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of FRS 102 & 105 accounting standards along with up-to-date VAT, corporate tax, and personal tax knowledge.
  • Proven track record of building positive client relationships through excellent interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.
  • Experience handling corporate clients as well as individuals across various industries such as property investment and retail.
  • Exceptional attention to fine detail combined with the ability to analyse complex accounting queries in a commercial context.
  • Advanced technology skills including proficiency in Excel plus familiarity with Xero, SAGE, IRIS, Quickbooks, and FreeAgent software packages.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines while remaining flexible in approach to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal-with confidence dealing with people at all levels in different environments.
  • Self-motivated attitude paired with strong organisational skills ensures conscientious completion of tasks without constant supervision.
