Job summary

Astex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge is seeking a qualified Senior Accountant to join their team. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including month-end accounts preparation up to trial balance level, managing fixed assets, and assisting with statutory reporting.

• Responsible for month end accounts up to TB level in GBP.
• Prepare and review general accruals and prepayments.
• Balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly recharge invoice calculations.
• Assist with monthly/quarterly discussions regarding costs.
• Prepare, post and reconcile all payroll journals.
• Assist with year-end statutory reporting and liaise with auditors.

I am delighted to be partnering with Astex Pharmaceuticals, a world leader in innovative drug discovery and development, to recruit a qualified Senior Accountant to join the team in Cambridge.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for month end accounts up to TB level in GBP.
• Hands on journal preparation and approval when required.
• Prepare and review general accruals and prepayments.
• Balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring all control accounts reconcile with sub ledgers.
• Prepare monthly recharge invoice calculations for the Japanese Parent Company.
• Assist with monthly/quarterly discussions with departmental managers regarding costs.
• Prepare, post and reconcile all payroll journals.
• Prepare and calculate IFRS16 work‑ings.
• Assist with multi‑currency reporting, budgets and forecasts.
• Control the detailed month‑end process with all necessary reconciliations and checklists.
• Assist with year‑end statutory reporting and liaise with auditors as required.
• Manage the fixed asset ledger, including related processes.
• Manage the banking and payment process.
• Review and control company credit cards.
• Maintain the cash‑flow forecasting model monthly.
• Oversee the PL process, ensuring all aspects are completed, including hands‑on support when required.
• Manage multi‑currency BACS runs twice monthly.
• Perform electronic bank reconciliations in all three main currencies.
• Raise sales invoices with calculations in sterling, euros and dollars on Access.
• Review and prepare monthly VAT reclaim returns.
• Assist with corporation tax preparation and associated adjustments.

Skills and Experience

• Accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent) with proven experience within a similar role.
• Strong IT skills.
