Senior Accountant Accountancy Practice (Brixham)

Location: Brixham, Devon

About the Firm:

A well-established and growing accountancy practice based in Brixham, supporting a varied portfolio of clients across Devon and the South West. The firm prides itself on its friendly, professional approach and long-standing client relationships.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, preparing accounts, providing technical support, and assisting with staff supervision and client advisory work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders

  • Preparing management accounts, VAT returns, and bookkeeping as required

  • Reviewing accounts prepared by junior team members and providing mentoring or guidance

  • Managing client relationships and acting as the main point of contact for day-to-day queries

  • Supporting clients with business and tax planning advice where appropriate

  • Liaising with HMRC and other external bodies on behalf of clients

  • Ensuring work is completed accurately and within deadlines

  • Assisting partners with ad-hoc projects and client advisory work

The Ideal Candidate:
  • AAT qualified, ACA/ACCA part-qualified or qualified (or qualified by experience)

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in an accountancy practice

  • Confident in preparing and reviewing accounts for a wide range of clients

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Proficient in accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar

  • Able to manage workload independently while supporting junior staff where required
