Job summary

Amwins Global Risks in London seeks a Senior Account Handler for Open Market (North America) to service North American and international risks from submission to invoicing, ensuring accuracy and high service standards. The role mentors junior colleagues and acts as a technical referral point within the team.

You will coordinate with brokers, underwriters, and Cheltenham, maintaining Contract Certainty and FCA compliance while building client relationships across markets.

Qualifications

  • Experience handling worldwide open market business, in particular North American.
  • Knowledge of Total Objects, GXB and Whitespace.
  • Experience using electronic placement systems.
  • An understanding of the regulatory and tax requirements in the territories concerned, using Crystal and TMF where appropriate.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office programmes and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels of management and with clients.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and act independently.
  • Experience mentoring or cross-training less experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the North American team servicing business from North America and elsewhere as required by the Division, into the London and international market, always ensuring client needs are met.
  • Day-to-day client servicing, from initial submission of risks through to hand-over to the processing team for invoicing.
  • Check the client record is set up in the broking system, preparing approval forms where necessary.
  • Analyse the insured risk in conjunction with the Broker and/or Producer to assess client requirements, including working on schematics as required by the placement.
  • Prepare Open Market Reform Contracts (MRCs), including endorsements and any adjustments, working in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring conditions and terms of cover respond to the client’s needs.
  • Produce client documentation as required by departmental procedures, complying with internal service standards and FCA requirements, and ensuring Contract Certainty.
  • Process placements and endorsements promptly, ensuring prompt payment and a good standard of service to our agents within business timeframes.
  • Chase agents for outstanding items needed to complete policy wordings and certificates.
  • Diary subjectivities, premium payment warranties and conditions, and liaise with the client and Broker to ensure they are complied with.
  • Prepare statistical analysis, including loss runs, where necessary.
  • Liaise with Cheltenham to ensure prompt and accurate issuance of invoices.
  • Assist the accounts department and/or underwriters with any queries they may have.
  • Review internal reports and liaise with Cheltenham teams to ensure all client cash and aged debt is cleared.
  • Build strong working relationships with Amwins International offices, independent producers, underwriters and Cheltenham, attending internal and external meetings as required.
  • Keep abreast of market, regulatory and tax requirements relating to the portfolio, in line with individual placements.
  • Ensure compliance with external and internal guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Act as a technical referral point for the Open Market technical team.
  • Check slips and/or endorsements prepared by other team members before they are presented to underwriters for review.
  • Mentor members of the team and assist them to develop, including cross-training to make Account Handlers more self-sufficient.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities which may become necessary for the proper performance of the role.

Introduction

Responsible for Open Market technical support in the North American Property Division on insurance and reinsurance business, covering single slip and multi-layered programmes, including catastrophe-exposed areas.

The role supports the Open Market Brokers by assisting them in providing underwriters with accurate and relevant information on risks, and is responsible for delivering post-bind servicing of risks so that a high standard of service is maintained for agents.

As a senior member of the team, the role also acts as a technical referral point, reviews the work of others and mentors less experienced Account Handlers.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications
