Job summary

Niantic Spatial in London is seeking a Research Engineer or Senior Research Engineer to build the geometric foundation of the next‑generation world map. You will work end‑to‑end on applied research spanning 3D deep learning, transformers, and productionizing capabilities for a scalable spatial AI platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, ML, Photogrammetry, or closely related field.
• Strong grounding in 3D computer vision, ML, robotics, photogrammetry, or related areas.
• Experience with 3D geometry: multi‑view reconstruction, SfM, SLAM, camera pose estimation, point‑cloud registration, image‑based localization, georeferencing, or sensor fusion.
• Ability to formulate ambiguous real-world problems and evaluate solutions rigorously.
• Proficient Python and ML/scientific computing libraries (PyTorch, NumPy, SciPy).
• Strong software engineering skills for productionizing research prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Geospatial Registration: develop algorithms for world-scale georeferencing across imagery, 3D reconstructions, and data.
• 3D Geometry & Correspondence: advance multi-view geometry, SfM, SLAM, feature matching, and ICP.
• Data & Evaluation: design datasets, pipelines, benchmarks, and evaluation methodologies.
• Learning-Based 3D Reasoning: explore transformers and 3D foundation models with geometric priors.
• Production Robustness: handle sparse GPS, changing appearance, large geographic extents.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: work with researchers and engineering teams to deploy production systems.
• Research Communication: share results via writing, reviews, and presentations.
