Qualifications

  • Recent experience in a SEND statutory team, ideally within a local authority.
  • Sound knowledge of SEND legislation, particularly Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Enhanced DBS can be arranged if not currently held.

Location: Wirral
Rate: £275–£350 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time | Initial 3–6 month contract | Likely extension
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in-office, remainder remote
Are you an experienced SEND professional with a passion for making a difference?
Wirral Council is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive SENDSTART Caseworker to join its dedicated SEND team. This is a vital role responsible for managing Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments and reviews, ensuring compliance with statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage statutory EHC needs assessments within statutory timescales.
  • Draft, amend, and finalise Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in collaboration with families and multi-agency professionals.
  • Lead on annual reviews for children and young people with EHCPs.
  • Work closely with schools, health and social care professionals to ensure provision is appropriate and effective.
  • Provide clear, empathetic communication with parents, carers, and education providers throughout the process.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and contribute to data reporting for the team.
Requirements:
  • Recent experience in a SEND statutory team, ideally within a local authority.
  • Sound knowledge of SEND legislation, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Strong case management and organisational skills.
  • Confident in managing relationships with families and professionals.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Enhanced DBS (can be arranged if not currently held).
