Job Title: SENDSTART Caseworker

Location: Wirral

Rate: £275–£350 per day (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-time | Initial 3–6 month contract | Likely extension

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in-office, remainder remote

Are you an experienced SEND professional with a passion for making a difference?

Wirral Council is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive SENDSTART Caseworker to join its dedicated SEND team. This is a vital role responsible for managing Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments and reviews, ensuring compliance with statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and manage statutory EHC needs assessments within statutory timescales.
  2. Draft, amend, and finalise Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in collaboration with families and multi-agency professionals.
  3. Lead on annual reviews for children and young people with EHCPs.
  4. Work closely with schools, health and social care professionals to ensure provision is appropriate and effective.
  5. Provide clear, empathetic communication with parents, carers, and education providers throughout the process.
  6. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and contribute to data reporting for the team.
Requirements:
  1. Recent experience in a SEND statutory team, ideally within a local authority.
  2. Sound knowledge of SEND legislation, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
  3. Strong case management and organisational skills.
  4. Confident in managing relationships with families and professionals.
  5. Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  6. Enhanced DBS (can be arranged if not currently held).
