Job description

  • Employer: The Aspire Learning Federation

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator

Salary: Main Pay Range 4-6/Upper Pay Range + SEN Allowance 2 (£5,149)

Hours: Full Time

Contract: Permanent (Non-class based)

Reports to: Head of School (Mrs Lesley Fuller)

Start Date: Autumn Term 2025

The Aspire Learning Federation was established in March 2022 between Elm Park Primary School and The RJ Mitchell Primary School. Both schools have a highly inclusive philosophy. We set high expectations for all our pupils and provide high quality pastoral care and support for our most vulnerable pupils. Anyone applying for this post will be employed by the Aspire Learning Federation and may therefore be required to work across both schools. In the first instance, this post is to work at Elm Park Primary School but there will be collaboration with SEN team staff from both schools within the federation.

Elm Park Primary is a two form entry primary school. We believe that every child deserves the very best education and we are proud to grow good people, people who are inspired and excited to make a difference to their lives and the lives of those around them. We are looking for a like-minded individual to join our team.

What are we looking for?

  • You'll be an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs.
  • You are a teacher who understands how children with a variety of additional learning needs learn and has a proven track record of outstanding practices in supporting staff in delivering high quality teaching and learning that meets the needs of all SEND pupils across the primary phase.
  • You’ll have proven leadership skills in managing SEND provision in your current setting.
  • You understand what inclusion for all really means.
  • You have a ‘can do’ attitude, are caring, hardworking and resilient in your outlook.
  • You’re passionate, proactive and organised and able to work at a fast pace and to tight deadlines.

What can we offer?

  • Opportunity to work closely with colleagues in our partner school within our federation;
  • Supportive and enthusiastic senior leadership and staff teams;
  • Forward thinking and innovative educational environment in which to work;
  • Opportunities for continuing professional development in strategic leadership and management.

Informal visits to the school are warmly welcomed and can be arranged by telephoning the school office on 01708 451463.

Please apply online.

Closing date for applications: Monday 16th June 2025

The Aspire Learning Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. Everybody who works for the schools within The Aspire Learning Federation is expected to promote and share thiscommitment.

Our recruitment process follows the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • Online and social media
  • Prohibition from teaching
  • Right to work
  • Satisfactory references
  • Suitability to work with children

You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (exceptions) Order 1975.

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
