Job summary

Hugh Baird College in Liverpool is seeking a compassionate SEND Teaching and Care Assistant to join Thornton College, a specialist centre supporting learners with autism and learning difficulties. You will work with tutors to provide high standards of support so every learner can thrive.

The role offers 35 hours per week during term time, permanent full-time, with pro rata for hours and weeks, LGPS pension, Medicash and a range of staff benefits, and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in Care or equivalent (Desirable).
• Level 2 Specialist Teaching Worker Award or Learning Support Certificate (Desirable).
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Empathy and ability to develop rapport with staff and students.
• Understanding of challenges working with learners with autism.

Responsibilities

• Meet and greet students and manage transport transitions.
• Escort students with mobility needs around college premises and on trips.
• Assist with personal care and mobility per multidisciplinary guidance.
• Supervise students at lunchtimes/breaks for safety and wellbeing.
• Support learners during teaching sessions and track progress via ILPs.
• Contribute to planning with class lecturers to adapt support.
• Provide first aid and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Support delivery of enrichment sessions and college events.
